Collaboration on new affordances for designers using XR

In a world where content creation has evolved dramatically, we are exploring new ways to empower creators.

My Role: For this project, I was asked to join and lead an existing relationship with Meta. We developed a research agenda and I negotiated the terms of the collaborative research, and as the director and executive sponsor, led the project until 2023.

The team consisted of M&E  Industry Futures researchers and engineers who defined the research problems, developed new science (as well as a new experience optimized for Meta Quest Pro) and built completely novel technology. Content designers at Meta were able to test and contribute to the development of the prototype to help validate the utility in their workflows developing animation content for characters and avatars.

Project Reframe is a proof of concept for recording and editing motion while immersed in Virtual Reality.

Shared at Autodesk University 2023, Project Reframe is the culmination of a multiyear collaboration with The Reality Lab at Meta, with the combined team crafting an interactive user experience and building the necessary infrastructure for creators to animate their characters using Meta Quest Pro and Quest 3 hardware.
